Movie : The Treasure of the Sierra Madre

Release year : 1948

Color : No

Genre :  adventure, thriller

i believe that films are made in generations. wherein every generation of directors try to make films as different as possible from every other generations. they may try to take a previous idea and mould it and make it inot a completely new idea. but all things considered none of those movies are the same. i guess that's the beauty of film making. In that aspect The Treasure of the Sierra Madre has to be from the very first generation. it is possibly the precursor of many more famous 'gold fever' films like meckanna's gold etc.

but dont think that, since you have seen one of the kind, so you have seen them all. the very beauty of this film lies in that fact that if seen even now, it looks very original. and dont even try to imagine what happens next in the film( all my predictions went wrong), because that's simply not possible. this is one helluva thriller.

If you have any reservation against black and white films then please watch this film, and get your ideas busted. and realise that good cinema occurs irrespective of the year in which it was released.

I tried to give as less of the story as possible from my side in order that none of the excitement is lost while watching the film.

Movie : Life is beautiful

Release year : 1997
Color : yes
Genre : romance, comedy, drama.

Good plot, decent story, great acting.

Sometimes there are unknown and possibly very stupid reasons why a brilliant film never gets recognition as it deserves. this is the case with 'life is beautiful'. agreed, it is popular, but not that as it could have been. I first saw this film on TV and was simply mesmerised by the story and acting. the very idea of making a comedy concerning Nazis was very new to me and i must say it was a job well done. the film starts with slap-stick comedy that transcends into an epic drama of cosmic proportions.

This film is a must watch for people because it tries to give the viewer a titillating experience that is so rare to get. the music( which by the way won an Oscar) is splendid and the sets are completely believable. the aura of innocence and love that the film generates is highly successful and is well appreciated.

This is a highly recommended film that's in my personal top 5 list. but i would only suggest one thing. that people see it once and ONLY once and savour the experience for a lifetime.

Movie : 2001 a space odyssey

Release year : 1968
Color : Yes
Genre : Sci-fi, thriller

Great visuals, awesome music, brilliant story, very very slow.

2001 a space odyssey is probably the most famous of Stanley Kubrick films; and for good reason. The film showcases a journey of sorts in search for monoliths which are considered to hold many secrets. The story (which Kubrick himself wrote along with Arthur C Clarke) is exact in its scientific sense. It portrays outer space with alarming accuracy and predicts many interesting devices many of which have been realized. This can be compared to the Jules Verne classic ‘20,000 leagues under the sea’ in that aspect. But from a film point of view the story is soo excruciatingly slow (I myself took a month and 5 sittings to watch this film, and I’m very patient), that any normal person might get bored during the 1st hour.

People wonder; for a film that’s so slow, and which many consider too abstract; why is it so famous? The answer is beauty. Pure and absolute beauty. For a film that’s made in the late 60’s, this film packs quite a bunch of special effects which even dwarf the latest sci-fi thrillers. But the most amazing thing about the film is the story of the film which can be interpreted by different people in different ways making this truly a unique experience.

Go watch this film if u prefer good cinema and are ready to die for it.
